We designed this EXPEDITION to build analytic, systemic and artistic aspects of visual thinking.
You’ll explore additional visual frameworks to express ideas more clearly from the digital or original whiteboard
You’ll learn drawing and graphic recording skills to give your sketches a more professional and confident look
You’ll understand the science behind why visual thinking works and learn practice techniques to build your skills after our Expedition ends
What others are saying...
"Hi Dave, I got through half of the Phundamentals yesterday and I was literally smiling through it. I'm already enjoying it so much!...so eye opening!"
-Chantal Gagnon Salesforce
Drawing for Work is different
In Drawing for Work you’ll balance time between the Art and Idea side of visual thinking.Â
Visual thinking is a skill that can only be developed through practice and repetition; that means you’ll be doing most - but not all - of the work solo.Â
We’ll still make time for reflection, gallery walks and review with live office hours.Â
You'll learn by doing
Homework assignments will sharpen your skills and make Visual Thinking more second-nature to your work flow and world view. You'll learn to:
- steal like an artist,
- find visual frameworks in everyday life, and
- develop daily disciplines to continue building your skills
You choose many of the sketch topics and drawing subjects; reimagine your work while you draw.
Sketch Lab will be an opportunity to dive deep into technique and technology with a professional illustrator: learn their secrets to drawing confidently and quickly, plus explore their setup
Steal like an artist
You'll copy professional illustrations - all in the name of learning. This is an example from our beta course - it's impossible to tell which is the original!
Daily Disciplines
You'll incorporate simple but impactful sketching techniques by making them part of your daily ritual
Find the Framework
Frameworks are everywhere! You just need to learn to notice them; once you do you'll have mastered the hardest part of visual communication. Here students found different examples of the classic 2x2 framework.
Your capstone
By the end of the course, you'll have visualized a concept, project or topic that holds meaning for you. This 11x17" visual blueprint will incorporate all the techniques you learned in the previous modules.
And it will no doubt teach you how to replace dozens of slides with a single, and more engaging, visual.
People will "OOH!" at how beautiful it is and "AAH!" at how much they learned from it.
